International Society of Typographic Designers – 100
This was piece done for the International Society of Typographic Designers. Each year this society runs a competition that is open to all graphic design students. There were a number of categories to base the solutions on. The one that I chose was the number 100. The solution I arrived at with this project was to create a paper timepiece that could count down 100 units of arbitrary time when set alight. I used a flame retardant liquid to paint the outline of the numbers and then using a torch I burnt the numbers into the page.
I was unable to achieve a working paper timepiece in the time allotted and whether or not such a thing is feasible seems unlikely. In spite of the projects failure on a practical level I feel it it succeeded in producing a beautiful graphic piece and it allowed me to follow a fascinating concept through to finality.
